President's Message

President, LAHFMA 2016-2017

What an honor it is to serve as your President of the Louisiana Chapter, one of 68 chapters across the country. It's an exciting time in our industry and I look forward to the coming year! The new board hit the ground running in Ft. Lauderdale at our Annual Leadership Training Conference in April where we were challenged by HFMA's 2016-2017 National Chair Mary Mirabelli to "THRIVE".

We are excited to have new goals and initiatives set before us by HFMA National which we will spend the next year sharing with you.  We want to make sure each of you knows and understands: this is your HFMA.  Your board is here making day to day logistical decisions, hoping to bring quality education to you at a reasonable cost, but in the end, we always want to hear from you.  We want your participation! You are the reason LA HFMA THRIVES.

We are so appreciative to Alicia Broussard for the years of dedication she has given to board service.  She has helped with strategic changes that we talked about for years but finally put into action and we are grateful for her leadership.  A big thanks also goes out to Scott Richard as he completes his 3-year term on the National Advisory Council and transitions along with Lucius Butts onto the Region 9 Committee to represent our chapter.  They replace Bob Ramsey and Teresa Avery to whom we owe a debt of gratitude for years of hard work within Region 9.  Chris McGivaren moves into Regional Executive-Elect duty and will spend the next year traveling and serving the region as needed.  We are fortunate to have a legacy of strong representation at the regional level and we look forward to what's ahead.

Our June Advanced Excel Class in Baton Rouge was a hit.  Be on the lookout for announcements about Summer Institute and Excel Classes in Shreveport August 28-30, 2016.  Kim Bryan and Corinna Goron have a full agenda already planned.  Please reach out to them if you can help them prepare or help once onsite.  If you want to hear about a topic at an upcoming meeting, let them know and they will do their best to seek out a speaker.

We've had a great response to our call for volunteers and our desire to get you involved. Before Annual Institute, we had already had an increase in volunteer engagement of 12% so we are on track with our initiative to involve the membership in planning and programming.  If you are interested in volunteering, contact Amy Carpenter at  and we will plug you in.

Also, thank you to our Annual Sponsors!  It's that time of year to sign up and we appreciate you!  Please let us know if you are interested in being a sponsor or know someone who wants to connect with LA HFMA for sponsorship (

We hope to see you in Shreveport!  Have a great summer!
